The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Vorkady, joyfully celebrated the 34th Velankanni Feast on March 2, 2025.
The day’s events began with the inauguration of the new Church Entrance Gate at 9:30 AM by Bishop Emeritus of Mangalore Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul Dsouza. At 10:00 AM, a special ceremony was held to honor individuals by presenting them with candles.
The Holy Mass commenced at 10:30 AM, with Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul Dsouza as the main celebrant. During the Mass, he delivered a sermon on the theme “Mother Mary, the Queen of Hope.” The celebration witnessed the participation of 25 priests from the deanery and guest clergy.
Following the Mass, the Parish Priest Rev. Fr Basil Vas expressed his gratitude to the Bishop, priests, and the faithful for their presence and blessings. A special prayer session was held, where priests laid hands on the faithful, invoking God’s grace. The event saw a remarkable gathering of around 5,000 devotees.
The celebration also marked the 67th birthday of the Parish Priest, with a cake-cutting ceremony in the church portico after Mass.
A festive meal was served to all devotees, fostering a sense of community and joy.
In the evening, a cultural program was organized, featuring the honoring of students who secured top ranks in the 10th, PUC, and other public exams. The highlight of the evening was a Tulu drama "Ammer" presented by the Mangalore Tulu Nataka Sangha, drawing an audience of 2,000 people. The entire program was conducted under the leadership of the Catholic Sabha the Apostolic Association.
The Velankanni Feast 2025 was a memorable and spiritually enriching event for the entire parish community.
